Frequently asked questions

What is a Tree Condition and Risk Management Survey

We will map and record information about trees and their surroundings  and based on your requirements  we will  to provide you  with  the information  you need as tree owners and managers make informed decisions about  tree management.

A strategic tree risk management approach is the most effective way for owners to target their resources efficiently and avoid the cost of unexpected and unnecessary works. We will work with you to to develop a strategy that manages risk and maximises the long term benefits of your trees.

Why do I need one ?

Over all the risk from trees is low but all landowners have a legal responsibility to take risk associated with trees in their ownership.  If a tree owner fails to take reasonable steps to manage risk and a tree fails and causes damage to a person or property, then the owner of the tree could be liable.

If you are responsible for trees in a space open to the public such as a school, church yard, hotel  or sports club for example  you  should have a tree risk management strategy. Part of this will involve a tree survey but a qualified inspector. We can discuss with you what is required for your situation from undertaking a site survey to assisting in developing a straight forward clear risk management approach for your organisation.   Where institutions adopt a tree risk management strategy we can provide cost effective  on going support.

How do I know if a tree is dangerous?

Many signs that trees might be at risk  of failing are obvious  for example trees which large dead limbs,  cracks and splits in stems and lifted root plates.  Also fungi  on the tree can be an indication  that there is decay.

If you notice anything obviously wrong with a tree or notice any sudden changes you should have it professionally assessed.

A inspection by a qualified arboriculturist will identify  the issues and provide options for reducing the risk. Having the tree independently assessed could avoid the need to expensive and unnecessary tree works.
