Frequently asked questions

What is a woodland management plan ?

Just like woodlands the size and complexity  of management plans  will vary according to the site and the circumstances. At its most basic a woodland management plan will assess a wooded area and divide it into compartments  or  distinct areas. Each area will be surveyed and assessed  as required we will provide a recommended program of management

Our Woodland Management plans are for 10 years based on  the Forestry Commission templates and UK Forestry Standard (UKFS)

, so that the information provide can be used for tree felling licenses applications and grant applications.

A  woodland management  plan is the most effective way for owners to target their resources  most effectively and avoid the cost of unnecessary works. We will work with you to maximise  the long term benefits of your woodland.

Why do I need one ?

Woodland management is a long term commitment it may take several years of gradual and carefully planned work to achieve an objective. A plan will enable you to make coherent decisions that target your resources  effectively and allow you to manage your maintenance costs.

A plan will record information about your woodland  and convey this information to subsequent owners, contractors and Authorities.  As well as demonstrating how and where improvements  to the woodland have been achieved.

A plan will also provide you with evidence of compliance with your legal obligations,  protecting wildlife, tree preservation orders  and managing risk . It will also be necessary if you plan to want  to  apply for grants .

How long will it take ?

How long the survey and report preparation will take  will depend on the and the size  and  the complexity of the site.  When you contact us to discuss your site  let us know your time constraints and  we  will propose a date for the survey.  Once the survey is undertaken we aim to get  a report to you within 7 days.
