Remarkable Natural Heritage
The UK has some of the oldest trees in Europe. These trees are often many centuries old and over time have developed complex structures and provide a myriad of microhabitats. These trees provide important ecological functions act as Keystone species. They are living national monuments and important landscape features and part of our cultural heritage.
Veteran Tree Management Plans
The principal aim of veteran tree management is to maximise the life span of the tree and preserve their ecological, historical and structural value.
I specialise in veteran tree management which means advising my clients how best to manage and preserve these special and increasingly rare trees.
I can provide Veteran Tree Management Plans and assessments for individual trees or groups of trees.
Including:
-
Individual detailed tree inspections
-
Evaluation of structural and physiological viability
-
Evaluation of habitat potential provided by veteran trees
-
Evaluation of the various arboricultural management options
-
Recommend targeted veteran tree works specifications
-
Development of long-term management plans
The aim is that this information can be passed on to the next custodian of the tree and they can better able to understand the management decisions made today. I provide a detailed record of the tree and undertake a research into its history to aid better understanding of the its context.
Long term management plans are important as often management of veteran tree is phased and the impact on the tree needs to be monitored. How the tree reacts is important in determining the most appropriate action in any given situation. A plan also helps to allocate the appropriate resources required to manage the tree now and in the future.
I prioritise non-invasive assessment and management techniques. Managing a veteran tree is often about managing it's environment. Pruning of the tree is avoided and only recommended where essential and carefully specified. PTC ltd only undertakes consultancy and doesn't undertake any tree works, so my opinion is unbiased and we will not recommend works that are not required.
